  An Open Letter
Dear Dumb Stupid president George W. Bush:

You do know that if you "fired" Donald Rumsfeld - or at the very least, he "resigned" - last week, there's a very strong chance that both the House and the Senate would still be Republican.

Dumb stupid president.

Stupid.

Signed,
Throws Left, Bats Right

Comments:
You would think that he would have to know, right? Or at least one of his skull buddies that was in charge of the "things you should know" department would have told him, right? Maybe he wanted to self destruct? Impeachment . . . is it that bad? It makes you think. What is it with small men that self-destruct? Like Hitler marching into Russia in winter, Bush is done (that recount in Virgina won't work).

Of the many style points in the TLBR Guidebook to Proper Blogging, one of the points on the "major no-no" page is the use of any Hitler reference when trying to make a point.

That being said, I do agree with your first point: someone ought to have told him.

And it's not something small, like "Mr. President...you have toilet paper stuck to your shoe" or "Mr. President, there's pen on your face."

This is: "Mr. President, the Democrats are shi...er...shampooing on us right now."

And that "shampoo" had little liberal pieces of corn in it. Which I hope Rick Santorum, Conrad Burns, and Mike DeWine dine on for the next two years.

(full disclosure...I'm actually a registered Republican...)

If President Bush had announced the resignation last week, your blog like hundreds of others would have hammered him for "playing election day politics" Instead he is now being bashed for being dumb - which you wish he was, but he isnt, and for telling a great 'lie' to the press. Must be nice to live in a world where you can have it both ways!

I wouldn't have cried "election day politics." I would have acknowledged that it was a shrewd political move.

(certainly better than Karl Rove seemingly hiring more violinists to play on the deck of the GOP Titanic as it sunk...)

Where I would have criticized our president (lack of capitalization intentional) is that the move of firing of Rumsfeld was, oh, about five-and-a-half years too late.

As for living in a world where I get to have it both ways, you are indeed correct: being both wickedly smart and devastatingly handsome is a cross I bear everyday.

It's tough. I'm seeing a buddhist about it.
